About Us - How It All StartedBack in 1994, Dave White, a good friend of mine wanted to teach a class that would help people that did not have a personality. I said, "Forget that, let's sell personalities." "Personality-In-A-Box" was born. But now I needed a name for the company. That summer I was in Hawaii. I sat with a friend and asked the bartender how to say crazy in Hawaiian. He said "Lolo", I said, "That's it!" The Lolo Company was born. Our tag line was "Crazy gifts for crazy people". I wanted a company that would make fun gifts for people that like fun things. We released "Personality-In-A-Box" and got a major catalog to buy several thousand. At that time I was around people that liked to play games. I thought, why not? Let's do a boardgame. I got together in a room with Bob and we came up with Don't Make Me Laugh. I play tested the game with many people and came up with the final version. We released the game in 1996 and it started selling. We have sold over 50,000 games and it continues to grow. With the help of Chris Crotty and his company, "Another Fine Idea", we upgraded the game and came out with Don't Make Me Laugh 2nd edition. There is 50% more funny in every box. We found that kids just loved doing what's on the cards, so we made a Junior version for kids 5 and up. It is called Don't Make Me Laugh Jr. and it is out selling the senior version. We also came out with Strange But True?, a tabloid headline game, that uses real headlines and stories from Wireless Flash News Service. In 1999 a group, Gimmick Toys, came to us with an idea for a game. We liked the idea, but it needed the Lolo touch. So we licensed the game-play and created RohSzamBo, the Rock, Paper, Scissors in the galaxy boardgame. Jim Lundburg, a friend, came to me with his game, Pentagonal, and Lolo decided to back him. We offer the game as part of our product line. We are not just a game company, we are a product company. We will be launching many more fun products, as well as a "Family Entertainment of-the-month Club". A club where once a month the members will receive unique products that promote family interaction. Like we say, "Come laugh, Learn, and play, with us." Charlie Paul - President"Hello, and thank you for taking your time to explore the world of Lolo. I started Lolo back in '95 with the hopes of getting people to take a look at themselves and maybe laugh a little. Pick up one of our products, all of them are designed to make you smile, laugh, learn and interact. We at Lolo support the family unit and hope we can enrich you and yours. " I am a native Californian. I grew up outside Los Angeles in Palos Verdes, then I went to college in San Diego. I graduated from San Diego State with a Computer Science degree in 1985 (wow that is a long time ago). After 10 years of "geeking", my creative urge was kicking me inside. I needed to start doing something other than writing software, so I started the Lolo Company. I recruited my brother Bob to help with the creativity and we were off and running. But before Lolo, I tried a few things. My first endeavor was with a friend, we wrote a baseball scoring information system for Major League Baseball..They loved it.. but committed themselves to IBM. Next came a software locating service... too boring. Next came Touch Screen Advertising...lack of technology. Finally I found my niche...fun and laughing, two things I love the best. They always say do something you love ... I am. Bob Paul - Vice President"Having been a high school teacher for 19 years, I have seen many examples of the good in people. Helping kids to question their values and beliefs as well as helping them with their goals and ambitions as they begin their adult lives has been an extremely rewarding experience. The kids always remind me that we should appreciate simple joys in our daily lives. " My brother, Charlie, and I have decided to form a company dedicated to the goal of bringing family and friends together in order to help people find the simple laughter that is in all us. The Lolo Company wants to make an investment in the good things that make life fun. I was born, July 18, 1958. Nine months later, my family moved to Southern Californa. I graduated from Long Beach State University where I received my BA in 1981. After that I decided to get my teaching credential and received it in 1982. I got my first teaching job in 1984 and have been teaching ever since. I teach 7th, 9th and 12th grade English. During this time I have ventured out and tried some other things. I worked for Hughes AirCraft as a "Total Quality" administrator. I worked part time as a sales executive for Computer Sports International. I am married: Wife Stephanie, three kids, Scott, Michael and Lauren. In my spare time I enjoy surfing, sailing and I train in Aikido, where I just received my black belt. With the pressures of day to day activities in our lives, I feel strongly that there should always be a little time to laugh at the lighter side of things, for they are always present with us. Having kids is one of life's greatest gifts. Why not have a little fun with them? |
